The Death of an Icon

Today “The Bronze Bombshell” (my van) died. It is the death of an icon. She was a faithful van, who brought joy to all who laughed at her as I drove by.

She died as a result of complications brought on by a ramming in her rear. I was driving along on my way to work this morning when a distracted driver hit her brakes late, skidded and bumped into the back of my faithful friend. I got out to check on the driver, assured her that there was not way she could damage my ride and sent her smiling on her way to work. Two miles letter “The Bombshell” began to shudder, and within 5 miles, while riding down Buford Hwy, she gave up the ghost.

The great irony and providence of it all is that she died close enough to a side street that I could coast and make the turn to get off the main thoroughfare. I came to a stand still 30 feet from the van I would later that day buy to replace “The Bombshell”. I sold “The Bronze Bombshell” to a junk yard for $280 and purchased “The Silver Fox” for $400 before the sun set.

Yes, she was already on the decline, but her demise seemed to have come ahead of its time. Though forfeited, she will never be forgotten. (Although I did forget to take a parting picture of her.) Mourn with me .
